Crusading with the Principal
#18

Our attendance is slowly improving! Thank you all for taking the health of your students seriously and making sure they are receiving the care they need during this awful flu season! We applaud the efforts of the families who made sure to send their healthy students to school while keeping the ones who were sick at home. At the school, we are taking precautions and making sure to disinfect the building over the weekend (beyond what is already done on a daily basis by our outstanding maintenance team)!
Quarter 2 has officially ended and we are excited to welcome in Quarter 3! As with each quarter, students are able to start fresh. It is important that students are always striving to be their best selves and actively participate in their classes. This does not just mean raising their hand to ask and answer questions, but actively participating in classes also means they are completing all of their work and using their best efforts.
Please keep in mind that although the letter grade may not seem important, it is the letter grades that largely determine opportunities students will have in the future. If you are ever curious about a grade on Progress Reports, tests, or even projects, make sure to contact the classroom teacher and schedule a meeting. Every member of the Dream Team at Casas is dedicated to our student’s success.
A new quarter also means a change in APS classes. Beginning Monday, January 29th, students will have Art on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This means gym clothes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This has been added to the calendar on the website.
ACCESS Testing continues through February. Students who participate in the ACCESS testing are students who have indicated they speak a language other than English at home. This assessment measures student mastery of the English language. Students are tested in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Please encourage your student to try their best when taking this assessment so it can accurately reflect their mastery of the English language.
There will be a parent meeting for the students invited to participate in Aequora on Wednesday, January 31st, at 2:45 pm.
The Acero Board Meeting will take place at Casas on Tuesday, January 30th, from 6-10 pm. All members of our school community are welcome! An agenda will be posted on our doors.
Crusading POMs will be meeting on Tuesday, February 6th, at El Mezquite on 18th St. All details are located on the website. In the upcoming meeting we will be discussing plans for the Valentine’s Day Dance and partnerships for Dia de los Ninos.
FUTURE Parents will have a session on Thursday, February 8th at 5:00 PM (to accommodate for families who work through the day). The topic of this meeting will be about how to ask the right questions to support your student’s success. This session was approved by the FUTURE Parents and will be led by Ms. Mix. Child care will be provided.
Theresa Herring (MS, LMFT) is a family therapist and she is coming on Monday, February 12th, at 5:00 pm to provide a session about “Disciplining without the Drama.” The session is recommended for families in grades 4-8, however, all are welcome!! This session is being provided through the use of Title 1 Funds, as was recommended by the FUTURE Parents team. Child care will be provided.
DENTAL FORMS are due! Please make sure to send your students with the most paperwork from the most recent check-ups! These can be submitted to Ms. Ramirez in the Main Office.
As always, please call the Main Office with any updates to contact information or pick-up, drop-off routines:312-432-3224.
We are the Casas Crusaders-small, but MIGHTY!
