WELCOME BACK!!!

We hope everyone has enjoyed their three week winter break and that everyone is ready to finish our school year strong!  The building gets very lonely when the students aren't here and we are glad to have them back!

Thank you to all of the families who donated canned goods to our National Junior Honor Society Holiday Canned Food Drive!  All of the donations were given to the Pilsen Wellness Center.  They sent us a thank you card saying that we, by far, made the most generous donation for the season.

We want to take a moment and recognize one of our 8th grade students- Daniel Velazquez- who was awarded the coveted Daniel Murphy Scholarship!  This scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated excellence in academics and in character.  The money received from the scholarship can be put towards tuition at many of the high achieving, private high schools around the city.  We are so proud of Daniel and we know he is a great addition to the Daniel Murphy Scholars.

Our Dream Team Fundraising Team has been selling lollipops and Smencils (smelly pencils) during lunch on Fridays.  These treats can be purchased for $1.  All of the money earned from this will be applied towards a special event to celebrate the students who have met their academic goals this year.  Items sold during this time will change as the year continues.  If you are interested in volunteering to help with the fundraiser, please contact the Main Office!

On Friday, January 19th, we will be having two website training sessions for families.  The first session will begin at 8:05 and the last session will be at 3:45.  The sessions will take about 30 minutes.  Please see the flier that was sent home.

We are excited to announce that we have had a increase in available technology at the school so that we are able to provide more opportunities for our students to engage in alternative learning experiences.  Our team is incredibly excited to be able to open up the world of learning to our students in a meaningful, engaging way.

And speaking of alternative learning experiences, we are also excited to announce our initiation into LEAP Innovation Cohort 5.  This is an amazing program that will help us redefine the culture of learning at our school. Four of our exceptional teachers (Mrs. Vester, Mrs. Suttman, Ms. Key, and Mrs. Cradick) volunteered to participate in the foundational building of this design, so please understand if you are seeing more absences from them- they will be attending very important professional development related to this program.

As always, please contact the Main Office with updates and changes to your pick-up routine or your contact information.  Safety, first! (312) 432-3224.
