Crusading with the Principal

#12

Hello Casas Families!

The first progress report made its way home this past week.  One thing to keep in mind is that although grades seem unimportant and like letters on a piece of paper, it is these letters on the piece of paper that will eventually open doors to other opportunities for our students, as well as provide them choices for their future.

Please make sure you are always working with your student on homework, as well as checking in with your student’s teacher(s) for ways you can support the academic work at home.

Beyond reaching out to the teachers for assistance with the work, homework help can also be provided online through a free program called Brainfuse.  This program provides one-on-one tutoring services and is accessible at: https://chipublib.bibliocommons.com/user/login.  These services are available between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm.  More information can be found here: https://www.chipublib.org/news/free-homework-help/.

Once you are on the site, you access the services by signing in with your library card.  If you don’t have a card, don’t worry!  You can go to any Chicago Public Library branch and sign up for one….free of charge!

Crusading POMS

The Crusading POMS will be holding a fundraiser on Tuesday, November 14th and Thursday, November 16th, after school.  They will be selling delicious treats!  All funds raised will go towards future Crusading POMS sponsored events.

FUTURE Parents-

At our FUTURE Parents meeting we discussed specific programs we can put in place to help families ensure our students are academically prepared for future careers and passions.  Programs to be on the lookout for include: “Asking the Right Questions”, family counseling, and how to monitor your student’s computer use.  We will be looking to offer morning and evening (after 5:00 pm) sessions.

Before You Go!

  • High School Applications need to be completed- please be working on this! (Application window closes December 22)
  • Student Led Conferences (SLCs) are scheduled for Monday, November 20th and Tuesday, November 21st.  These will be held in a similar open house style as last year.  Please be prepared to bring your student so they can share their learning with you!  Times will be sent out this upcoming week.
